The Feather by Margaret Wild - 7/10

A fable about finding beauty in the midst of struggle and darkness, and the importance of sharing the good rather than hoarding or hiding it.

Two children find a marvelous white feather, a mystical object in their dark and dingy world. However, their efforts to try to share it with their neighbors is sullied when the adults decide such an object must be locked away for its own protection.

The story is left largely symbolic and relies heavily on the reader to parse out the implications of its tale, but the simplicity of the story and hopefulness twined throughout its pages are charming in their way.
