A heartwarming story about the power of friendship to transform us and the ripple effect that change can have on a community.
I went into this book a little skeptical because it seemed very wordy in my initial flip-through, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well Hemingway engaged those words to create a developed and poignant story that did not feel long. It is heartwarming, well executed, and relatable while introducing a level of subtilty not often found in picture books because of their compact nature. I think that this book would be one that continues unfolding over many readings and as children grow. (Also, Pigeon speaks in emojis - simplistic but still a nice detail for modern readers.)
