Cartwheel feels isolated and alone in an entirely new world with its strange language, but when she makes a friend at the park, their ability to connect without a common language makes the prospect of learning new words feel more comfortable. This book introduces children to the jarring nature of moving somewhere completely foreign and encourages friendship and understanding. The metaphor of language as blankets made the big, general ideas feel concrete and relatable.
