When the Fae court is overthrown by a powerful sorceress, The Childe slips away to the human world to find the one person who might be able to help: his changeling.
While the world-building and illustrations are gorgeous - the basis for a well-done fantasy book - what really made this book exceptional was its exploration of the nature of family and identity. Both The Childe and Edmund (the changeling) struggle with feeling out of place and alone, and meeting each other and encountering the worlds they were born into prompts them to entertain the idea that things could be different, and there are many poignant conversations - but my absolute favorite part of the book was Alexis, Edmund's older sister, who stumbles upon their secret (and is confused) but her love of the brother she grew up with and empathy for her blood brother means that she is unfailingly loyal and protective of both boys throughout the entire adventure.
